October Update
Please make sure to look at the special events this month on the main page!
Reading
Thank you for encouraging your child to read 20 minutes per night! I am really seeing some growth in our readers! We are continuing to study characters this month. We have really worked on finding evidence from our book to support our thinking.
Writing
We have finished our class story about Ms. Smurf and students are moving on to writing a partner story! We have some great ideas! We will spend about 3 weeks on a partner story and then students will write their own story.
Math
Practice, practice, practice! Please practice facts! We will be sending home cards on 9/20 for those students not at 80% or better on their weekly fact tests. A HUGE part of fourth grade is multiplication and division so fact knowledge is very important!
We have completed our first unit learning about multiplicative comparison and factors/multiples. We are going to use this knowledge to help us multiply BIG numbers in our next unit.
Science
In science, we are studying geology. Students have looked at how a local place changes. We are currently figuring out how rocks impact erosion and deposition.
Social Studies
Students are learning about the United States and the different regions of the U.S.
September Update
Reading
We are starting our first unit focused on characters. Students will be reading books with various characters in realistic fiction novels. We have been learning about ourselves as readers and we are excited to start to get to know your children as readers. Please help your child be a better reader by reading for 20 minutes EVERY NIGHT. You can also keep a book in the car! It is a great way to "steal some time" for reading :)
Writing
Right now, we are writing a realistic fiction story as a class! Students are VERY excited to write the story. Then, they will be writing a story in a partnership and finally writing one independently. We are hoping that students will LOVE writing and have success when they write independently.
