When do I keep my child home?   Attendance is very important.  We are aiming for less than 5 absences this school year!  We have lots of hand sanitizer available to help prevent germs.  To guide you in when to keep your child at home, here is an excerpt is from page 16 in the parent handbook.

Injury or Illness

All injuries must be reported to a teacher or the office. If minor, the student will be treated and may return to class. If medical attention is required, the office will follow the School’s emergency procedures.

A student who becomes ill during the school day should request permission to go to the office. An appropriate adult in the office will determine whether or not the student should remain in school or go home. No student will be released from school without proper parental permission.

Illness at School

If your child becomes ill at school, we will contact you to pick him/her up. We have no accommodations for sick children at school. Please help us by keeping your child at home in the morning if they are ill or have a contagious condition. Students should remain home until they have been fever free without medication for 24 hours.

HelloJ

This is my fourth year working at West Oakview.  I graduated from Ferris State University and started my education career here at West five years ago. I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade this year!  I have two sons that attend Northview; one at the high school, and the other at Crossroads. I love the outdoors and spending time with familyJ We also have golden lab named Chester.

We will be starting a 4th grade fundraiser soon!  More information to come :)

Introducing.... Mrs. Heyboer!
Hello,
I am very exciting to be teaching at West Oakview this year.  This will be my 17th year teaching and my 8th year teaching 4th grade.  I taught at Crossroads for three years and at Grand Rapids Public Schools for six years before that.  I am married to my husband Kevin and we have a daughter named Lorelai and a son named Evin.  Below is the most recent family picture minus Lucy - our crazy black lab.
